Recovery

Minimal Down Time and Quick Recovery

Labiaplasty is a minor, minimally invasive procedure with a relatively quick recovery time. Dr. Kitto and her team prioritize your comfort and provide comprehensive care to ensure a smooth healing process.

Most patients experience only mild swelling, bruising and little to no discomfort. These side effects are completely normal, and full recovery should take around two weeks. They are seen frequently in the office during their postoperative period to monitor their full recovery.

Immediately After the Procedure

After the procedure, patients are sent home the same day with:

  • Pain Management: Prescription or over-the-counter pain medication to manage any mild discomfort.
  • Cool Compresses: To minimize swelling and provide soothing relief.
  • Antibiotics (if needed): To prevent infection and support healing.

You’ll also receive detailed aftercare instructions and have a follow-up schedule arranged before leaving the office.

Typical Recovery Timeline

First Few Days

In the initial days following surgery, you may notice swelling and minor bruising in the treated area, which is completely normal. Some patients experience mild drainage or spotting from the incision site. Swelling might feel more pronounced on the second day but will gradually begin to decrease by the third or fourth day.

To promote healing during this time:

  • Use cold compresses to minimize swelling and provide relief.
  • Take prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication as directed.
  • Keep the area clean and follow all aftercare instructions provided by Dr. Kitto.

First Week

Most patients feel comfortable enough to resume light, non-strenuous activities within the first week. Swelling and tenderness may still persist but should continue to improve daily. You might notice minor asymmetry in swelling, which is temporary and part of the natural healing process.

During this time, avoid:

  • Tight clothing or underwear that could irritate the area.
  • Strenuous exercise or heavy lifting.
  • Prolonged sitting, which may increase pressure on the incision site.

Weeks 2-6

By the second week, most swelling and bruising will have subsided, and you should feel ready to return to normal daily routines. However, the incision site will still need care. Dr. Kitto typically recommends abstaining from activities such as sexual intercourse, swimming, and tampon use for at least 3-6 weeks to allow for complete healing.

Final results, including reduced swelling and faded scars, may take several months to fully develop. Dr. Kitto uses meticulous techniques to ensure incisions are placed in natural creases, allowing scars to heal discreetly and become nearly invisible over time.

Tips for a Smooth Recovery

  • Dress for Comfort: Wear loose, breathable clothing to reduce irritation and promote airflow to the incision site.
  • Stay Hydrated and Nourished: Proper hydration and a healthy diet support your body’s natural healing process.
  • Soothe Sensitivity: A spray bottle with distilled water can help cleanse the area and reduce discomfort when urinating.
  • Listen to Your Body: While it’s important to stay active with gentle walking, avoid overexertion. Rest as needed to allow your body to heal.

Follow-Up Care and Questions

Dr. Kitto and her team closely monitor each patient’s recovery through scheduled follow-up visits. These appointments are an opportunity to address any concerns, ensure proper healing, and answer questions about your progress. If you experience unusual symptoms such as severe pain, fever, or unusual discharge, contact our office immediately.

With proper care and attention, labiaplasty recovery is a straightforward process. Most patients report feeling more confident and comfortable within just a few weeks. Dr. Kitto is dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized care to ensure you achieve the best possible outcome.
